Description: The goal of this workshop is to familiarize with the OpenStreetMap world, how to edit, how it is relevant from a wikipedia/wikimedia prospective. The workshop will be divided into two sections:
- Hands-on: editing using different tools: JOSM and iD editing, from osmose to wtosm, to maproulette to pure .
- Intro: Introductory talk on how OSM data is organized and how it can be accessed and used.
Purpose: To close the gap between OpenStreetMap and the Wikimedia initiatives.
Targeted participants:
- Anyone interested
- Wikipedians with an interest in maps
- Commons user with an interest in geocoding information
- People that want to discover more on mapmaking
- Developers with an interest on geo-information
Preparatory readings or materials:
- An updated tutorial will be created in the coming weeks
What else would you like to work on?
- If you would like to suggest activities or topics to be covered. It can be pretty flexible, I'm open to changes and will try to accommodate needs of the participants.
