Title: Maps, Graphs and Wikidata on the wiki
Author: User:Aude & possibly others
Description: Learn about how to use Wikidata on Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and other projects, using lua, and possibilities to integrate with the Graph extension and maps on wiki.
Wikibase (the software behind Wikidata) provides rich capabilities to access Wikidata content using lua from the connected and arbitrary items to use in infoboxes and other templates. See examples of how this is being done in various Wikimedia projects, and learn how to access Wikidata with lua. Examples of Wikidata usage include Infobox:Telescope on English Wikipedia and Infobox:Fromage on French Wikipedia.
Also, see how Wikidata data is being integrated with use of the Graph extension to provide static and interactive charts and maps on-wiki. The Hungarian Wikipedia is using Wikidata to add graphs of population over time for articles about places in the Czech Republic. We are also working on the possibility of accessing the Wikidata query service (and other apis and external Wikimedia data sources) via the Graph extension. The Graph extension also provides extensive capabilities to create graphs and thematic maps of other, non-Wikidata content.
The Wikimedia OpenStreetMap map tile service is also becoming available for use on the wiki, and opens new possibilities for dynamic, interactive content on the wiki.
(depending on audience interest, can focus on particular subtopics or give overview of all of these, or something in between)
Purpose: To educate participants about new tools available to make more enriched and interactive content and templates on the wiki.
Targeted participants: Template authors and intermediate-level Wikimedians
