Abstract

The Wikimaps Warper 2.0 IEG project proposes a mapping workshop to be arranged together with different mapping initiatives and projects of the Wikimedia movement. This is an open invitation for collaboratively arranging a cultural mapping workshop spanning several days during the event. We are open for modifications, for example changing the nature of the workshop into a cultural hackathon.

The aspect which the Wikimaps Warper 2.0 project wants to bring forward, is historical mapping, connecting maps and images originating from GLAMs with data and articles. The Wikimaps project has made available Wikimaps Warper, a tool which makes a scanned map align with a present-day map. The work we are doing is a step in the direction of being able to connect images, maps, documents and articles to time and space, and use that to provide more connections within the sum of all knowledge – for research but also for new ways of experiencing the archives.

Let’s focus on the location - Esino Lario and the region - and work together mapping, documenting and connecting histories through locations!
